Squink Privacy Policy
Squink is a puzzle game for iPhone and iPad published by Agora App LLC, a Missouri limited liability company ("we", "us", "our"). This policy covers the Squink app and the playsquink.com website.
Squink is a separate product from the Agora app. Agora's privacy policy does not apply to Squink, and this policy does not apply to Agora.
For data protection laws such as the GDPR, Agora App LLC is the controller of the personal information described here.
Where Squink is today. Squink is currently in beta testing through Apple's TestFlight and is not yet on the App Store. This policy describes what the beta does now. See Planned changes for how we will handle new features.
1. The short version
- You can play the campaign without an account. Your progress stays on your device.
- Squink has no chat, no free-text fields and no profile photos. Level names and player names are generated from a word list we control. You can't type them.
- If you use Studio to publish or browse shared levels, we store a small account record: a random player ID, a random app-generated device ID, your auto-generated player name, the levels you publish, and your favorites and thumbs.
- Squink has no ads, no in-app purchases, and no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools.
- We don't sell your personal information.
- You can report a level, block a player, and delete your Studio account inside the app. You can also email [email protected].
2. Information stored only on your device
Squink saves the following in the app's storage on your device. It isn't sent to us.
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Completed levels, music and sound settings | To keep your progress and preferences |
| Boards you build in Studio before publishing | So you can keep working on them |
| A random app-generated device ID (see section 3) | To recognize this install when you use Studio sharing |
| Studio sign-in tokens | To keep you signed in to Studio |
Deleting the app removes this information from your device.
3. Information we collect when you use Studio sharing
Studio sharing lets you publish boards you've built and play, favorite and thumb boards from other players. To make that work, we store the following on servers run by our provider Supabase (see section 6).
| Information | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Player ID | A random ID we create for your Studio account | To run your Studio account |
| App-generated device ID | A random ID created by Squink on your device. It is not Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) or vendor identifier (IDFV). | To sign you in to Studio without a password |
| Player name | An auto-generated name built from our word list | Shown next to levels you publish |
| Published levels | The board layout and solution, a preview image of the empty board, the auto-generated level name, your player ID and player name, when it was published, and its favorite and thumb counts | To share your levels with other players |
| Favorites and thumbs | Which levels you favorited or thumbed, and when | To show your Favorites and level popularity |
| Sign-in records | An account record for your player ID and session tokens. Sign-in uses a placeholder address ending in ".invalid". It is not a real email address, and no email is ever sent to it. | To keep you signed in securely |
| Reports | If you report a level: your player ID, the level, the reason you picked from a fixed list (offensive, spam, harassment or stolen), and when. There is no free-text field. | Moderation and keeping Studio safe |
| Blocks | If you block a player: your player ID, the player you blocked, and when | To hide that player's levels from you |
| Server logs | Technical details our providers record for each request, such as IP address, time and the service called | Security, preventing abuse, and fixing problems |
We don't collect your real name, email address (unless you email us), phone number, contacts, photos, location, health information or browsing history.
Our legal bases under the GDPR are performance of our contract with you (to provide Studio) and our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure, working and safe, including moderation.
4. Published levels are public
When you publish a level, every Squink player can see it, along with its auto-generated name and your auto-generated player name. Published levels can't be edited. Because Squink has no free text, levels can't contain messages, links or personal details.
Reporting and blocking. In the app, you can report a shared level in Studio by choosing a reason, and you can block the player who made it so you no longer see their levels. You can see and undo your blocks in Settings. You can also report a level by emailing [email protected] with the level name and the player name shown on it.
Moderation. A level that several different players report is hidden from everyone automatically until we review it. We can also hide any level ourselves, for example one that copies someone else's work or breaks our rules. We aim to review reports within 24 hours.
5. TestFlight beta
Squink's beta is distributed by Apple through TestFlight. If you test Squink, Apple may share with us information such as the name and email address you were invited with, the build you installed, and any feedback, screenshots or crash reports you choose to send through TestFlight. Apple's handling of your information is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
6. Service providers
We use these providers to run Squink. They process information on our behalf.
| Provider | What they do | Information |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase, Inc. | Database, file storage, sign-in and server functions for Studio sharing | The Studio information in section 3, including reports and blocks, and level preview images |
| Apple | Beta distribution through TestFlight | As described in section 5 |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Hosts the playsquink.com website (Cloudflare Pages) | Standard web request logs |
We also receive the emails you send to [email protected].
7. This website
playsquink.com is a simple static site. It doesn't set cookies of its own and doesn't use analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Cloudflare, our host, processes standard request information such as IP address and browser type to deliver and protect the site.
8. Children
Squink is a general-audience puzzle game. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Squink is designed to collect very little: no free text, no chat and no real names.
If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child gave us personal information, email [email protected] and we'll delete it.
9. Deleting your data
- In the app: go to Settings and tap Delete account. When you confirm, we immediately and permanently delete your Studio account and sign-in record, your player name, the levels you published and their preview images, your favorites and thumbs, the reports you made, your blocks, and any blocks other players made of you. Your levels are removed for everyone.
- By email: write to [email protected] with your Studio player name and any details that help us find your account. We'll acknowledge your request and complete the deletion within 30 days. This deletes the same information as deleting in the app.
- On your device: deleting the app removes your local progress and boards.
For email requests, we may need to verify the account is yours before we delete it. Copies in our providers' server logs are removed on their own schedules.
10. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy. Your Studio account, published levels, reports and blocks are kept until you delete your account or ask us to delete them, or until we remove a level for breaking our rules. You can undo a block at any time in Settings. Server log retention is set by our providers. We may keep information longer where the law requires it or to resolve disputes.
11. Security
- Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS (TLS).
- The database limits access so that players can read only public levels and their own records.
- Levels are created only through our server functions, and server credentials are never included in the app.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we'll notify you as the law requires.
12. International transfers
We're based in the United States, and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
13. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information by emailing [email protected].
EEA, UK and Switzerland. You also have the right to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
California and other US states. You have the right to know what we collect and to access, correct and delete it. We don't sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, and we don't use sensitive personal information. We won't discriminate against you for using your rights. You may use an authorized agent.
We'll respond within the time the law requires.
14. Planned changes
We plan to add a one-time Studio purchase through Apple, sign-in with Game Center, and possibly ads in the free version. These features are not in Squink today. If we add any of them, we will update this policy before they ship.
15. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. If a change is material, we'll let you know in the app or on this site before it takes effect.
